Property Tax

    California Disabled Veterans' Exemption — for 2026, exempts up to $180,671 (Basic) or $271,009 (Low-Income) of the home's assessed value from property tax on the primary residence. Eligibility: veteran must be rated 100% service-connected disabled OR compensated at the 100% rate due to TDIU/individual unemployability. Low-Income tier requires household income at or below $81,131 in 2026 (income includes VA disability compensation). NOT a full exemption — value above the exempt amount remains taxable at the local rate (typically 1.0–1.25%). Unremarried surviving spouse may also qualify. Apply at County Assessor.

    California Disabled Veteran License Plates and Fee Waiver — DV plates issued free of charge, AND vehicle registration + license fees fully WAIVED for one passenger vehicle, motorcycle, or commercial vehicle with unladen weight ≤8,000 lbs. AB-390 (effective 2026): replacement DV plates also free. Eligibility: veteran must have a SINGLE condition rated 100% by VA or military service (combined ratings totaling 100% do NOT qualify) — must be a diagnosed disease/disorder that substantially impairs mobility. Surviving unremarried spouse may continue benefit.
